n the quaint village of Ibrampur, Pernem, Goa, a remarkable transformation has taken place. Amita Naik, once a homemaker, has carved a niche for herself in the dairy industry, turning a modest beginning into a flourishing enterprise.

Key Highlights:

  • Humble Beginnings: In 2017, Amita and her husband ventured into dairy farming by purchasing cows and selling milk locally and to Goa Dairy. However, the returns were modest, prompting them to seek better avenues.
  • Pandemic Pivot: The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 became a turning point. Recognizing the demand for locally produced dairy products, Amita decided to process milk into value-added products like curd, paneer, and lassi.
  • Skill Enhancement: To ensure quality and efficiency, Amita underwent training through the Lupin Foundation and leveraged government schemes via the Rural Development Agency (RDA) to acquire necessary equipment.
  • Brand Launch: After thorough research and preparation, the Naiks launched their dairy brand, Adishri, in the summer of 2023. The brand offers a range of products, including lassi, curd, paneer, ghee, and even traditional ice candies.
  • Business Growth: Starting with 10 cows, the enterprise has expanded to 25 cows, producing 150 litres of milk daily. Processed products now fetch up to Rs 70 per litre, doubling the income compared to selling raw milk.
  • Sustainable Practices: To maximize resources, Amita also produces vermicompost from cow dung, generating an additional Rs 15,000 per month.
  • Community Impact: Despite challenges, including competition from established brands, Amita remains optimistic about changing consumer perceptions and emphasizes the importance of supporting local entrepreneurs.

Amita’s journey underscores the potential of resilience, adaptability, and leveraging local resources. Her story serves as an inspiration for aspiring entrepreneurs, especially women, highlighting that with determination and the right support, success is attainable.
