In a remarkable gesture that blends gratitude with nation-building, Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, has donated ₹151 crore to his alma mater, the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. This is among the largest personal contributions to an Indian educational institution, reinforcing the critical role of philanthropy in academia.

Key Highlights:

  • One of the Largest Education Donations in India:
The ₹151 crore contribution stands out not just for its size but for its strategic impact—aimed at bolstering scientific innovation, research infrastructure, and entrepreneurial development at ICT.
  • Deep Personal Connection to ICT:
Ambani, who graduated in Chemical Engineering from ICT, described the institute as the place that gave him the foundation to dream big. In a heartfelt reflection, he humorously remembered calling one of his professors a “Bania Chemical Engineering Professor,” highlighting how ICT shaped his blend of technical and business acumen.
  • Transforming the Future of Education:
The donation is earmarked to upgrade ICT’s innovation labs, enhance research capabilities, and support student-centric development initiatives, helping the next generation of engineers and entrepreneurs thrive.
  • Mukesh Ambani’s Vision on Education:
“Education transforms lives — it certainly transformed mine. ICT gave me the foundation to dream big, and today, I want to empower others to do the same,” said Ambani, reiterating his belief in building world-class educational ecosystems in India.
  • About the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT):
Formerly known as UDCT, ICT is one of India’s premier institutions for chemical engineering and applied sciences. It has consistently produced industry leaders, world-class researchers, and innovative technologists, making it a cornerstone of India’s industrial and academic progress.
  • Beyond Philanthropy — A Model for Change:
Ambani’s contribution is not just financial—it serves as a model for giving back to the institutions that shape future leaders, encouraging successful alumni across sectors to play an active role in educational upliftment.
