New Delhi, July 2025 — Vietnamese EV major VinFast has announced a strategic partnership with BatX Energies, an Indian clean-tech startup, to recycle and repurpose EV batteries as it gears up to launch operations in India.
The collaboration will focus on extracting critical materials like lithium, nickel, and cobalt from used batteries — building a closed-loop battery lifecycle and reducing raw material dependency. The recycled materials will be fed back into VinFast’s battery production line, supporting both sustainability and cost-efficiency.
This comes ahead of VinFast’s upcoming ₹4,000 crore EV manufacturing facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, set to begin operations by June 2025. The plant is expected to produce up to 150,000 EVs annually and create over 3,000 local jobs, further boosting India’s clean mobility ambitions.
“We’re excited to partner with BatX to build a strong circular battery ecosystem in India,” said a VinFast India spokesperson.
Founded in 2020, BatX Energies has emerged as a deep-tech leader in EV battery recycling, using proprietary processes to recover and upcycle battery-grade materials at scale.
The partnership marks VinFast’s second major move in India in less than a month — the company recently joined hands with RoadGrid to roll out EV charging and after-sales infrastructure across key cities.
With this alliance, VinFast is not just entering the Indian EV market — it’s embedding itself into the clean tech supply chain. By localizing both production and recycling, the company is positioning itself as a long-term player in India’s fast-evolving green mobility space.
