Deep-tech startup VyomIC has secured Rs 14 crore ($1.6 million) in a pre-seed round led by Speciale Invest, with participation from BYT Capital and DeVC. The funding will accelerate development of its Low Earth Orbit (LEO)-based Positioning, Navigation, and Timing (PNT) payload, back its upcoming spaceborne demonstration mission, and expand team capabilities.
Aiming Beyond GPS
Founded by Lokesh Kabdal, Vibhor Jain, and Anurag Patil, VyomIC is building satellite constellations to deliver sovereign, secure, and highly accurate PNT services without dependence on foreign-controlled systems like GPS or GLONASS. The platform promises centimeter-level positioning and nanosecond-level timing, designed for mission-critical sectors such as defence, aerospace, finance, and telecom.
Technology Edge
VyomIC’s LEO-PNT system integrates atomic clocks, encrypted signal layers, and AI-powered orbit determination algorithms, creating signals that are jamming-resistant and spoofing-proof. With stronger power, faster convergence, and superior coverage in urban or GNSS-denied zones, the system directly addresses the vulnerabilities of existing navigation frameworks.
Market Opportunity
Global reliance on GPS has exposed risks of interference, outages, and foreign control. India’s strategic sectors — from autonomous vehicles to defence infrastructure — require indigenous navigation alternatives. By tapping into the LEO constellation model, VyomIC positions itself as a critical enabler of both national security and global navigation innovation.
Final Take
With fresh backing, VyomIC is preparing to validate its payload in space and set the stage for a full-fledged constellation serving users worldwide. The startup reflects India’s deep-tech ambition — to move from being a consumer of navigation technologies to a creator of sovereign, next-gen infrastructure.
