Bengaluru-based startup Exponent Energy is making significant strides in India’s electric vehicle (EV) sector by introducing a groundbreaking 15-minute charging solution. Founded in 2020 by Arun Vinayak and Sanjay Byalal Jagannath, former executives at Ather Energy, the company aims to address critical barriers to EV adoption, including long charging times, limited infrastructure, and short battery life.

Key Highlights

  • Innovative Charging Ecosystem: Exponent Energy has developed a proprietary energy stack comprising the e^pack (battery pack), e^pump (charging station), and e^plug (charging connector). This integrated system enables rapid 15-minute charging using standard Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) cells, a first in the industry.
  • Advanced Battery Management: The company’s Battery Management System (BMS) 2.0 utilizes proprietary algorithms to reduce lithium plating by 87%, enhancing battery longevity. This system offers ten times higher accuracy than conventional BMS, ensuring optimal performance during rapid charging.
  • Efficient Thermal Management: To address the heat generated during fast charging, Exponent employs an off-board HVAC system within the e^pump. This system circulates refrigerated water through the e^plug to maintain battery temperatures between 25°C and 35°C, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Cost-Effective Solutions: By optimizing battery capacity and leveraging standard LFP cells, Exponent’s technology reduces EV costs by 30% and charging costs by 33%. The battery packs come with a 3,000-cycle life warranty, triple the industry standard, validated by TUV India.
  • Strategic Partnerships and Expansion: Exponent has partnered with Altigreen Propulsion Labs to deploy over 200 electric three-wheelers, collectively covering more than 1 million kilometers. The company plans to expand operations to Delhi NCR, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Ahmedabad, aiming to deploy 1,000 e^pumps and power 25,000 EVs by 2025.

Vision for the Future

Exponent Energy envisions a future where EVs are more accessible, affordable, and efficient. By addressing key challenges in the EV ecosystem through innovative technology and strategic partnerships, the company is poised to play a pivotal role in accelerating India’s transition to sustainable mobility.
